Tatcha Skincare For The Geisha In You!

Tatcha Skincare Logo"May the gift of enduring beauty now be yours."

Much like the founder of the company, I am completely mystified by the beauty of Geisha. So when I heard there was a skincare line that had gotten the inspiration for their formulas for the ancient rituals of the Geisha, I of course had to try them out!

While Tatcha is a relatively new brand, I expect to see great things from them, and after trying it out, I am now a die hard fan of this amazing skincare line!

About Tatcha:

Tatcha Founder Vicky TsaiTatcha was started in the spring of 2009 by Vicky Tsai.

When Vicky was a little girl, her mother would make her own skincare products using traditional herbs. Vicky asked her mother about the process one day, and she simply said that it originated with the Geisha.

The idea of beautiful skin stuck with her, and she decided to spend much of her early life in the cosmetics industry. While working for one company, she developed a severe case of dermatitis that took a very long time to heal, and was likely due to the harsh chemical she had been subjecting herself too while testing out products.

With her first child on the way, Vicky decided enough was enough with the unnatural chemicals and toxins she had been putting into her body. She began to search for a skincare product that would be both effective and healthy.

Remembering what her mother had said about Geisha, Vicky's fascination was renewed with the elegant and mysterious beauties. She began researching how the Geisha kept their skin so gorgeous using only the products that were available at the height of their popularity in Japanese history.

She kept hearing references to a 200 year old Japanese beauty manual called the Miyako Fuzoku Kewai Den that was said to contain the ancient secrets to the beauty rituals of the Geisha. Studying the 3 volumes along with the help of historians, scientist, and modern Geisha, Vicky was unable to uncover some of their long forgotten rituals. What was interesting is that many of the ingredients used at the time have since been scientifically proven as being effective, and are still actively used today.

Using the guidance from her travels and research, along with a team of world class chemist, Vicky Tsai created Tatcha; an all natural, environmentally friendly, and completely awesome brand!

About the Products:

Tatcha Barneys New York Display

I tried out the entire Tatcha Ritual which included 5 products. I have been testing them out for an entire month and I'm excited to share my results! I will tell you about each product in the order I use them in.

Camellia One Step Cleansing Oil 5.1oz $48.00

The Camellia Cleaning oil is currently my go to favorite cleanser of all time!

It is very simple to use! I just rub the oil on to dry skin, massage it a bit, and rinse it off with warm water. It rinses off really easily and doesn't leave any sort of residue behind on your skin. I also use it to clean my eyelids which I wouldn't do with most products but the Cleansing Oil is very gentle and doesn't burn my eyes.

The best part about the cleansing oil is that it absolutely destroys any trace of makeup including some pretty serious professional foundation and eyeliner that would typically have me scrubbing so hard that my face actually hurt.

I absolutely love love love this cleanser and highly recommend it!

Classic Rice Enzyme Powder 2.1oz $65.00

The Rice Enzyme Powder was a little strange to me at first. It's a very fine powder that becomes a slightly foamy and thick cream when combined with water.

I was suspicious of the Rice Enzyme Powder's ability to exfoliate because it is not gritty like standard exfoliators. The proof was in the results. My skin looked fresh and healthy, and the tone even felt a bit more even after only one use.

Tatcha also recommends the product as a two-in-one cleanser. I may never know because that cleansing oil is a MUST in my skincare ritual but it definitely makes a good exfoliant.

Deep Brightening Serum 1oz $150.00
I really love glowing healthy looking skin. You know the kind that is so great? Why put makeup over that? Tatcha says the brightening serum will help prevent and reduce the appearance of the visible signs of aging. Luckily I'm not suffering from that yet, but with my incredibly fair skin, even the slightest discoloration is remarkably obvious.

The brightening serum is a thinner than normal serum. It absorbs really quickly into your skin and leaves it looking not shiny but glowing.

I love using it in the morning after I wash my face. It works great as a very light moisturizer for me, and really helps make me look healthier, especially on the days I don't wear makeup!

Moisture Rich Silk Cream 1.7oz $150.00

The Moisture Rich Silk Cream has a thick rich consistency and is incredibly hydrating.

I only have to use a tiny amount of moisturizer for complete coverage, so one jar will last quite a long time. It comes with an adorable little gold spoon that helps you measure the right amount of product to use, and also prevents contamination.

I have been using this every night for a month, and it doesn't leave my skin feeling heavy or greasy at all. Usually I would moisturize in the mornings as well, but since the effects last for such a long time, I really like using the Deep Brightening Serum in the morning and the Moisture Rich Silk Cream at night.

Original Beauty Papers 30 sheets $12.00

You probably don't need to use powder as often as you think you do! Blotting papers are the easier, and in my opinion, better solution because they remove the shine from your face by absorbing excess oil. These papers won't smudge the makeup you've got on, or ruin your hard work by adding more powder. It's also a great way to help keep your pores from getting clogged by the excess oils.

The Tatcha Beauty Papers are pure decadence with tiny gold flakes and 100% pure Abaca leaf paper. The papers are incredibly flexible and soft on your skin, but they are thick enough so they aren't too fragile to normally handle.

I love the Tatcha Beauty Papers because not only do I get to feel fancy, but I really think they absorb more oil than similar products I've tried.

Overall:

I can't say enough good things about Tatcha. I really loved each of the products I tried. They have a rich history, and well though out formulas using natural ingredients. They don't have a strong or irritating smell and everything is very gentle.

I really saw an overall improvement in my skin almost immediately, but with continued use it just keeps getting better. The difference in my pore size was dramatic!

I highly recommend these Tatcha products to anyone with oily or combination skin! They also have a newer line out called the Water Collection that I imagine would be great for dry skin. Since my skin tends to be combination, I'd really love to try it out for those days when it's dryer.
